Organic cotton is grown without the use of fertilizers, pesticides or any other toxic chemicals. The eco-conscious methods used in organic farming, support a sustainable environment, helping to maintain soil fertility resulting in 100% natural cotton, with no hidden nasties.
Viscose
The majority of our woven styles are made from viscose, a man-made fibre made from sustainable wood and bamboo pulp. Viscose is known as a 'semi-synthetic fibre' to reflect the combination of the natural raw materials and the chemical manufacturing process that turns the pulp into usable fibres.
From May 2018, All our online orders will be sent out in 100% plastic free, recycled paper packaging.
We ask all suppliers to follow the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code which summarises the labour standards.
At Sugarhill, we are committed to producing ethically manufactured products. We ask all our suppliers to follow the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code, which summarises the conditions under which our products should be manufactured.
We will only work with suppliers that share our commitment to fair and safe labour practices and observe environmentally conscious practices.

We believe in a win-win relationship.
It is our firm belief that enabling people to grow within our business and creating win-win relationships with our business partners, is what makes us a success. Ethical supply chain
Our work with ethical supply chain management, circle around our membership of BSCI. We use the BSCI Code of Conduct to communicate about our requirements for social compliance. The BSCI Code of Conduct is based on the ILO conventions, UN Global Compact and the UN Guiding Principles. BSCI is a platform for companies to share their work with sustainability and use it as a collaborative approach to increase the influence in the supply chain and at the same time avoid audit fatigue. However, BSCI for us is just a minimum requirement for doing business with DK Company. It is through partnerships and capacity building within our supply chain that we can really make a difference in the global supply chain. We do not know the farmer who picked our cotton, or the woman who made our clothes, but we have a desire to always learn more and increase our influence in our supply chain. We are humble towards our responsibility and we work every day to increase our knowledge about our supply chain and ensure decent and fair working conditions and protection of the environment.
Bangladesh
Yes, we produce some of our styles in Bangladesh and we have signed and are working actively with the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety to build up the industry in the country. When signing the Accord we have recognized our responsibility to: - Maintain our sourcing volume in Bangladesh, in order to secure the jobs of the millions of workers working in the garment industry there. - Be transparent about our operations in the country and enroll all the factories that we work with, in the Accord Inspection program. - Help to remediate the issues found in the inspection program - Encourage and support the formation of worker participation committees in order to enable the workers voices to be heard.
Ethical sourcing
We ask all our suppliers to work with their supply chain and set requirements the same way as we put ethical requirements on them. All our suppliers have signed our Ethical Sourcing Requirements. DK Company is aware that we cannot put any requirements on our suppliers without looking at our own approach and sourcing methods. To keep becoming better and better at ethical sourcing, we are currently building up capacity within our company to make everyone aware of their influence in achieving a more ethical supply chain.
Stakeholder dialogue
Our approach to CSR is to engage in partnerships with our stakeholders and engage in dialogues about some of the key issues we face in the global textile supply chain. We cannot do much as a single company, so it is very important for us to have a good dialogue with our stakeholders – this is the reason why we chose to become a member of the Danish Trading Initiative (DIEH) in 2014.
Social Responsibility in Denmark
It is our policy always ensuring a good working environment for our employees. We are convinced, that happy, healthy and motivated people is a prerequisite to creating business success. We encourage a work-life balance, which is reflected in our policies for flexible working hours and in our investment in coaching for all employees both for their private and professional lives.
DK Company is a Fur Free Retailer
In 2012, DK Company made a decision to become a Fur Free company. We have an Animal Welfare Policy signed by our suppliers, where we ban mulesing, live plucking and live skinning of animals and we require that the leather we use, only derive from animals who have been bred for the food industry.
Chemical Restrictions
We have our own set of chemical restrictions, which restricts dangerous chemicals in our clothes and/or in the production. The chemical restrictions are made to protect the workers who work with the chemicals, our customers who wear the clothes and not least the environment. Our testing programme helps us to control that our requirements are being kept. We cannot test everything on all our products, but for each of our collections we make a manual risk assessment and pick out styles for tests, that we consider high risk in regards to chemicals. Our products are tested from production samples, and if they fail in tests, they will not reach their final destination (the shops) until the products lives up to the standards of our Chemical Restrictions.

]]>One of my all time favourite Bristol independent shops has to be the gorgeous Fox and Feather. Working alongside Clare, the fab owner and founder of Fox and Feather and the lovely Lola, creative manager who has helped significantly in the creation of ‘Stil’, Fox and Feather's sister shop. All in all one incredibly cool and fun shop to be part of and one amazing team of ladies behind it.
Clare, who continues to be effortlessly cool and calm started the business six years ago. With just a small budget she put all her eggs in one basket and threw caution to the wind and opened one of the first independent fashion shops on Gloucester Road, Bristol. Instantly raising the standard of ladies fashion in the area. Thankfully it was a hit with the ladies who were fairly limited for choice at the time and fell in love with this quirky little boutique. Since then the store has gone from strength to strength adding casual contemporary menswear to the selection and her most recent new venture is the Scandi style homeware department.
Lola, a good friend to Clare’s was asked to help curate the new homeware collection. She used her passion for interiors and flare for style to bring the idea to life. In November 2016 ‘Stil’ was opened and quickly became one of the locals favourite places to shop when looking for something slightly different and cool for their homes. Lola and Clare worked hard together to build this little sister shop which now sits perfectly within Fox & Feather, and has bought a whole new level to the blooming business.
Now six years later this local business is full of life and colour and a lot of passion. I know there is so much more coming from Fox and Feather so watch this space.

So far I've styled my complete lifestyle on our new board 'Lifestyle Inspirations' (yeah, just that little thing), added a new board "Key Styling Elements' and updated my 'Clare's Style Inspiration' board. This is work, honest, as the whole team uses these boards as inspiration and guidance when we're doing our buying, styling the store and dressing the models for our photography. As you will probably see I'm a bit of a junk shop magpie: car boots and antiques fairs are my ideal way to spend a weekend. And when you can't actually go to them, then Pinterest fills the little void quite nicely and with no money handed over. Perfect!
How do you use Pinterest? Don't tell me you don't use it, you are missing out an a world of free dreaming and fantasy shopping!

]]>Cast your mind back a few years when the only choice in men's jeans was either straight or baggy. Sure, you'd find more men wearing bad jeans, but it was a simpler time. Well, long gone are the days when men's jeans either did or didn't fit. With so many options to choose from, it can be a complicated task to choose the right pair to suit both your style and frame.
We delve deeper into the world of denim with Bellfield's SS15 collection and offer a little guide to their different styles, and suggestions on how best to wear them.
We delve deeper into the world of denim with Bellfield's SS15 collection and offer a little guide to their different styles, and suggestions on how best to wear them.
1. IDOL
Skinny fit jeans featuring a low rise and tight fit through the leg, tapering down to a narrow hem opening.
I'm sure there were a few of us who doubted the longevity of the skinny jean, worn only by indie guitarists or emo teens, but they proved themselves a worthy partner to many a well-established style. Bellfield's skinny offering, the Idol, is a more standard skinny than a 'spray on' making it the perfect choice in balance and shape, especially for a taller gent with thinner legs, and works perfectly with trainers or low cut shoes.
2. GONZO
A high rise fit which is best worn low, the leg is slim tapering to a narrow hem.
For those who can remember wearing jeans in the nineties, the skinny may still feel a little too restrictive. The Gonzo, however, is slimmer around the legs but offers a narrow hem, great for the tall guys among us. The high-rise allows them to be worn low with turn-ups or pin-rolls. It's a versatile choice for both a casual relaxed look with a baggier tee and trainers, or smarter with brogues and an oxford shirt.
3. PHOENIX
Slim fit jeans which are fitted through the leg to give a narrow silhouette and taper slightly from the knee for a neat finish.
Staying again with a slim fit, this time the Phoenix, a more relaxed jean but which steers away from a straight leg by tapering in at the knee and making them more suited to a guy with shorter legs. The Phoenix Euphrates is the perfect partner to a pair of white sneaks, but would do the business just as easily turned-up above a pair of desert boots.
4. NEVADA
Our trademark fit, the leg runs straight down for a roomier fit whilst still maintaining a slim silhouette.
With the overly baggyness of a bootcut jean hopefully still too far away in the horizon to be poised for full scale comeback, the best option for the athletic man who needs room to move in his denim is the Nevada. The straight fit allows for movement but keeps everything in proportion and looks great with leather boots.

As spring slowly gathers pace, and with summer on it's way (yes, really!) you may find yourself faced with the old conundrum...what do I wear to all these weddings?

]]>In our Bristol store we have helped style many a lovely lady for all different kinds of weddings and we have a few little pointers and style tips that hopefully you will find useful.
Traditional Church Wedding
Sometimes these can be the trickiest. You want to look on trend and stylish, but need to be wary not to offend the Mother of The Bride...sound familiar? Try these tips:
Outdoor 'Hippy' Wedding
Outdoor weddings can have the feel of a mini-festival, so go with the flow and relax your choices in what you wear.
Not Really a Dress Kinda Girl?
There is absolutely no pressure to wear a dress to a wedding if it is just not your bag. If Kate Moss can wear trousers, so can we! Just bare in mind these points:
Registry Office Smart/Casual Wedding
Often the worst thing about planning your wedding outfit is not knowing how smart to go. Will everyone else be dressed down? Our tip is always assume it will be fairly smart, unless you have been clearly told otherwise: you don't want to be the only one in jeans. We often say choose a pretty dress, but tone down the accessories if you are unsure about dress-code.
Ok ladies. Hope some of that has helped solved a few dilemmas. If you have enjoyed this, please share it with your friends, and let us know any tips of your own. We love passing them on to our customers!
